Instinct

Inpenetrable
A mass of trees within the woodlands creates the immediate reaction to paint. The natural setting of the forest is energetic only experienced through placing oneself centrally amongst it. Intense light shines through a mesh of foliage left feeling warm and composed.
The wooded area allows for the development of my artistic expression invoking a subjective response. The natural habitat opens a search into the poetic language of the trees in discovering a sublime experience through painting. An interpretation of the atmosphere is conveyed through gestured marks suggesting layers of spatial depth. An abstraction of this vision painted in oil embodies this reaction by means of textural glazes and vivid colour.
A theoretical study into traditional painting of trees evoked an interest into an
ideology of subjectivity, the sublime and perception. This curiosity is manifested
in each of the three paintings in the exhibition. An expression of intense light
is prioritised by setting a translucent colour as a base. Layers of different colour
