Statement

Just as there is no complete, ideal [art] work there is no ideal, generalised spectator. We cannot talk of art's spaces as a common, shared space we enter with equal experiences - on the contrary, the idea of the neutral spectator has been dissolved and criticised, and the identity of the viewer have been specified and differentiated by both art practices and theories since the 1960s.

Simon Sheikh

I've been frozen for 30 years. I've got to see if my bits and pieces are still working.

Austin Powers

After studying in the early 80s the artist was placed in suspended animation and his energy directed elsewhere.

Restored to partial consciousness in 2009 he began a programme of rehabilitation of which this exhibition of experiments and devices to explore and monitor meaning is a part.
