   Statement

 

Tracey McMaster is an artist and curator whose work originates from the social and cultural context within which it is produced, involving the audience as catalysts and collaborators, making the familiar humorous and absurd.

McMaster experiments with restrictions, language and the dialogue with the audience, often making the audience rethink their own environments through the form of live art, video, performance.

 

 

Biography

 

During her degree at Nottingham Trent University McMaster gained a scholarship to study at Musashino Art University in Tokyo, Japan. Whilst in Japan McMaster exhibited in three exhibitions in Tokyo.

 

Since graduating in 2008 McMaster established Backlit Gallery/Studios in Nottingham and was a director there until July 2010. She curated three exhibitions and co-curated the programme of exhibitions for the two years as part of the establishment.

 

Since 2008 McMaster has exhibited around the UK including a screening of her video ‘To Mars With No Return’ at Nottingham Contemporary and is soon to be in an exhibition curated by Louise Ashcroft as part of the Departure Gallery series.
