Statement -  City Narrative

The real and imagined are here drawn together by the crumble of pencil lead. Liz’s large format cityscape drawing casts a high-rise view over a population’s bustle, humour and loneliness.

Liz is intrigued by the use of pictures in making sense of the world - from road signs, maps and diagrams to children’s books. She gains her own sense of belonging from taking time to stand and draw people going about their daily business.

Through her passion for on-site sketchbooks she interrogates the everyday, weaving together snatches of overheard conversation with related collaged ephemera, paper engineering and monoprint.

Liz’s paper work is being completed during a school workshop that explores storytelling through drawing. The children’s additions acknowledge the democracy of urban living as people’s opinions layer over each other.
